If you can look past all the seemingly adverse approaches to religion, you will be able to enjoy this graphic novel for what it is and recognize its ingenuous spark of hilarity. This story’s hysterical content is not meant to be taken seriously and will definitely give you the giggles. Its satirical approach to life and humanity as a whole is both brash and refreshing, while the actual story is a plot of monumental proportions.
Danny Wormwood, the main character, is the hero of this comical tale – but there’s a catch, too. He also happens to be the Antichrist, and he’s not at all interested in initiating the Apocalypse. As you can imagine, this definitely does not get past his father too well; after all, good old dad just happens to be the most vile, evil-doing creature of them all: Satan.
Wormwood, along with his talking rabbit named Jimmy, teams up with his pal Jay, who actually happens to be a reluctant Jesus Christ. However, this time around, Jesus is definitely not willing to die for the sins of mankind for the second time. He’s a very confused, albeit well-meaning, black guy. Then again, poor old Jay’s sense of judgment could very well be a bit skewed, considering the fact that his skull was cracked open from a blow that was dealt by a racially discriminatory cop.
Thus begins a crazy journey of shocking revelations and sidesplitting laughs that will tickle your funny bone and leave your ribs aching. Can Wormwood find a way to work things out?
